Problem first
I start with something I actually want solved.
About / Dmitriy Bannikov
Professionally, I’m a Principal Software Engineer working on architecture and implementation of large enterprise systems. Gummy Labs is where I explore the opposite end of software development: small products built around problems I encounter in everyday life.
I design and build these applications independently, using AI-assisted development heavily where it makes implementation faster. AI has changed how quickly I can turn an idea into working software, but not the parts I find most interesting: defining the problem, deciding what not to build, designing the system, evaluating tradeoffs, and determining whether the result actually works.
The projects span native iOS and macOS applications and web tools. Most started because I or someone close to me needed them. Some remained personal tools; others found a small group of regular users.
I don’t build them to become startups. I build them because making useful software is still one of the things I genuinely enjoy doing.
How I build
AI accelerates implementation. Architecture, tradeoffs, validation, and what ships remain my responsibility.
I start with something I actually want solved.
I remove features until the product has one clear job.
I use AI extensively for implementation, iteration, and exploration.
Architecture, tradeoffs, validation, and what ships remain my responsibility.
